Elizabeth Hambleton - Musical Director
Elizabeth Hambleton was appointed as the Musical
Director of New Mill Male Voice Choir in September 2002, having been the
choir's accompanist for the preceding two years.
Her dedication, enthusiasm and expertise have a calming influence on choristers.
In rehearsals she has the ability to guide the choir through new pieces in a
firm but understanding way to achieve maximum effort from all. On the concert
platform she is totally unflappable.
Elizabeth was born in South Kirkby and now lives in South Hiendley near
Barnsley. She studied at the Northern School of Music in Manchester
specialising in accompaniment. Her first teaching position was at Kent College,
Pembury where she trained the school choir and their performances included an
appearance at Canterbury Cathedral.
On her return to Yorkshire she took up a teaching position at Wakefield Girls
High School where she built another very successful choir which went on to
perform at York Minster, make a recording and an appearance on BBC television.
Elizabeth left the school to start a family but continued with her own private
teaching practice. However in 1998 she was invited to return to Wakefield Girls
High School as piano teacher.
Whilst acting as Musical Director for New Mill she prepared and conducted the
choir for their three concerts in the Czech Republic and also at the recent
Town Hall concert where they performed with Hade Edge Band and Cantorion Colin
Jones.
Elizabeth's husband Eddie is a member of the choir's baritone section. They have
three children, daughter Joy, now married to Ross and twin sons Andrew and
Edward.
